THE Georgia women and Stanford men have been voted the champion of the 2005-2006 dual meet season in the final S.R.Smith – CSCAA Top 25 Poll.

The Lady Bulldogs earned all 8 first place votes. SEC rival Auburn finished second, followed by California, Arizona, and Florida. The top 8 spots on the final poll are held by members of the SEC and the Pac-10, which should lead to a very exciting conference battle at the upcoming NCAA Championships in Athens, GA.

On the men’s side, the Stanford Cardinal split the first place votes with Auburn, but earned slightly more points to be crowned dual meet champion for the year. Following second place Auburn were California, Southern Cal, and Florida. This year’s dual meet season was marked by tremendous parity and a lot of movement of teams throughout the year, which should make for a thrilling and wide-open NCAA Championships in Atlanta, GA in two weeks.

The CSCAA Dual Meet Poll is an indication of a team’s ability to win dual meets during the season and is not a predictor of any team’s end-of-the-season placement at the NCAA Championships — although, for most of the ranked teams there is a high correlation between their dual meet strength and the school’s ability to score at the championship meets in March.

This season’s NCAA Championships “March Mania”, college swimming’s version of “March Madness”, will take place March 16-17-18, 2006 at the University of Georgia for the women.
