BEAVERTON, Oregon, September 16. PATRICK Mulcare, who was one of the busiest swimmers at the recent Youth Olympic Games, gave University of Southern California head swimming coach Dave Salo his verbal commitment this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just seemed like the perfect fit for me,\u201d Mulcare said in an article published by OregonLive.com<\/a>. \u201cThe campus is really small and contained, and it\u2019s absolutely beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mulcare swam in multiple finals at the Youth Olympics in China last month, including three in one session. Though he left the meet with no medals, he returned with a lot of lifetime bests. The backstroke specialist turned in times of 26.86 in the 50 back, 55.86 in the 100 back and 1:59.65 in the 200 back. He also got the opportunity to race the 200 free and posted a 1:50.57 for a new personal best, as well as a 2:02.66 in the 200 IM, setting a lifetime best there as well. He added a 51.54 relay leadoff for the Americans in the 400 free relay. His highest placings in China were fourth in both the 200 back and 200 IM.<\/p>\n

The Tualatin Hills standout will be a strong player for the Trojans in the short course pool. He currently holds a personal best of 1:42.99 in the 200 back, but also boasts a summer nationals qualifying time of 3:48.48 in the 400 IM.<\/p>\n
