{"id":109867,"date":"2014-09-15T19:51:22","date_gmt":"2014-09-16T02:51:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=109867"},"modified":"2014-09-15T19:51:22","modified_gmt":"2014-09-16T02:51:22","slug":"seattle-university-piles-up-charity-cash-for-cancer-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/seattle-university-piles-up-charity-cash-for-cancer-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Seattle University Piles Up Charity Cash for Cancer Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MERCER ISLAND, Washington, September 15.\u00a0ONCE\u00a0again, the Seattle University swim program was well represented at the Seattle site Saturday, Sept. 6, of Swim Across America, an annual event dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention, and treatment through swimming-related events.<\/p>\n<p>Together, the members of the Redhawk swim team that participated in some way raised $4,460, part of over $240,000 raised on behalf of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. The swimmers completed a two-mile course that began at the Mercerwood Shore Club and ended at Luther Burbank Park.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline Van Maren\u00a0(Bellevue, Wash.) won the women\u2019s two-mile race, followed by teammate\u00a0Kristin Hoffman\u00a0(Mercer Island, Wash.) in second place. Assistant coach\u00a0Katherine Kubancik\u00a0finished in sixth place among the women, with\u00a0Arianna Sapp\u00a0(Silverdale, Wash.) right behind her in seventh place.\u00a0Melissa Randolf\u00a0(Everett, Wash.) also took part in the swim, while\u00a0Allie McGavock\u00a0(Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was on hand to support the team, plus she raised money on behalf of the cause.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side,\u00a0Kyle Moline\u00a0(Mercer Island, Wash.) finished in second place, followed by\u00a0Nick Connors\u00a0(Richland, Wash.) in fifth place.\u00a0Gabe Wheeler\u00a0(Round Rock, Texas) finished the two-mile swim in 11<sup>th<\/sup>place, and incoming freshman\u00a0Ben Nussbaum\u00a0(Issaquah, Wash.) ended up in 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0place overall.<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle University swim team will officially report to campus\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_617557187\">Tuesday, Sept. 16<\/span>, for physicals and meetings, with practice scheduled to begin\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_617557188\">Wednesday, Sept. 17<\/span>. The women\u2019s swim team will compete at Oregon State\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_617557189\">Friday, Oct. 10<\/span>, while the first meet for the men\u2019s swim team takes place at the Connolly Center against Grand Canyon and Arizona State\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_617557190\">Friday, Oct. 24<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><em>The above article is a press release submitted to Swimming World.
