KIRYAT BIALIK, Israel, March 5. FOUR national records plus an additional five national age group records were swept away last weekend at the Israeli Winter Short Course National Championships in Kiryat Bialik\u2019s 25-meter, eight-lane pool.<\/p>\n
Anya Gostamelski, 25, set national records in both the women\u2019s 50-meter freestyle, 25.92, and the 200 freestyle, 2:00.70. She also turned in an outstanding 1:00.19 for the 100-meter backstroke. Sixteen year-old Nastia Korotkov stroked an Israeli record 2:31.24 for the women\u2019s 200-meter breaststroke.<\/p>\n
Nacav Cochavi, 21, equaled the national record in the men\u2019s 100-meter fly at 53.67, then followed with strong winning swims in the 200 fly (1:58.03) and 200 IM (2:02.08) and a 55.31 for the 100 back, which netted him second place.<\/p>\n
The three men\u2019s backstroke events were swept by Olympic semifinalist Yoav Gath, who touched in 25.59 for the 50, 54.45 for the 100 and 1:56.12 for the 200. He was followed in the 200 by Ehud Segal at 1:57.79. <\/p>\n
Former Auburn swimmer Shai Livnat took the 100\/200 free combo with times of 49.81and 1:47.77. Nineteen year-old Yaniv Schneider, who was third in the 100 back (55.32), won the 400 free in 3:55.67 and the 400 IM in 4:17.98. Miki Malul sprinted to victory in the 50 free in 23.39 and the 50 breast in 28.06.<\/p>\n
