ST. MARY'S CITY, Maryland, March 4. THROUGH the first two days of action at the Maryland Swimming Championships, the girls from the North Baltimore Aquatic Club have been nothing less than sensational. Then again, that's become fairly routine.<\/p>\n
The reigning world champion in the 200 and 400 individual medley events, Katie Hoff won the 1,000-yard freestyle on Thursday night in a spectacular time of 9:27.56, not far off the American record of Kate Ziegler (9:24.80). Then on Friday night, Hoff cooked up a 1:44.32 clocking in the 200 free.<\/p>\n
Hardly lost in Hoff's excellence were amazing swims from 13-year-old Felicia Lee and 15-year-old Courtney Kalisz. Lee set a 13-14 NAG record in the 100 butterfly by touching the wall in 53.44, better than the previous record of 53.53, set in 2002 by Dana Vollmer.
