SANTA BARBARA, Calif. February 25. THE No. 8 Arizona State University water polo team opened its weekend at the Gaucho Invitational Saturday morning and dropped a close decision to No. 9 San Diego State, 4-2. The loss sent the Sun Devils to 6-3 on the season.<\/p>\n
Following a scoreless first quarter, both teams found the back of the net once to bring the game to intermission tied at one. In the third quarter, the Sun Devils scored again, but the Aztecs added two goals before marking their final goal in the fourth quarter for a 4-2 victory.<\/p>\n
Offensively, Addison Doud and Lindsay Williams recorded the lone goals of the game for the Sun Devils while goalie Caylinn Wallace recorded 10 saves in the contest.<\/p>\n
With the loss, the Sun Devils will now face Head Coach Todd Clapper\u2019s former squad, the Bears of Brown.<\/p>\n

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. \u2013 Following a defeat earlier in the day, the No. 8 Arizona State University water polo team rebounded at the Gaucho Invitational as it handed an 11-3 defeat to Brown Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif. The win improved the Sun Devils\u2019 record to 7-3 on the season following the defeat of Head Coach Todd Clapper\u2019s former program.<\/p>\n
After being held to just two goals in its first game of the day against No. 9 San Diego State, the Sun Devils again started off slow as the Bears took an 2-1 lead following one quarter of play. But, the second quarter proved to be the start of ASU\u2019s turnaround as the Sun Devils connected on three scores to take a 4-2 lead at the intermission. After out scoring the Bears, 2-1, in the third, the offense came to life again, this time out scoring BU, 5-0, in the fourth.<\/p>\n
Ashley Bower led the offensive surge with four goals in the game while Katie Hedley and Rowie Webster each added two scores. Katy Lawlor, Raelyn Ritchie and Lindsay Williams each added single goals in the victory. On the defensive end, Caylinn Wallace recorded nine saves in the game.<\/p>\n
The Sun Devils open the second day of action Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. when they face No. 13 UC Irvine.<\/p>\n
