THE Netherlands&#8217; Femke Heemskerk had herself a strong evening at the short course Jose Finkel Trophy meet in Brazil. As part of Minas, she smoked the women&#8217;s 50-meter freestyle for the win and also helped Minas to victory in the women&#8217;s 800-meter free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Heemskerk blistered the women&#8217;s 50-meter freestyle finale in 23.99. That&#8217;s better than her best time of 24.26 from last year during the Eindhoven stop of the FINA World Cup and would have put her 10<sup>th<\/sup> in the world a year ago. Italo Duarte hit the wall second in 21.42 with Bruno Fratus (21.46) and Nicholas Dos Santos (21.49) placing third and fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Thiago Simon popped a 4:06.38 to win the men&#8217;s 400-meter IM this evening, well ahead of Brandonn Pierry&#8217;s second-place 4:10.49. Evandro Silva wound up third in 4:11.04. Simon would have ranked 14<sup>th<\/sup> in the world last year with his swim tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Samantha Arevalos hit the wall in 4:39.20 to win the women&#8217;s 400-meter IM, while Florencia Perotti took a close second in 4:39.82. Gabriele Goncalves raced to third in 4:42.18. Arevalos doubled up with an 8:290.84 to win the women&#8217;s 800-meter free. Carolina Bilich (8:30.12) and Bruna Primati (8:35.85) placed second and third.<\/p>\n<p>In relay action, Pinheiros&#8217; Gabriel Ogawa, Henrique Rodrigues, Leonardo Santos and Joao De Lucca topped the men&#8217;s 800 free relay in 7:01.93 with Minas&#8217; Manuelle Lyrio, Andressa Lima, Femke Heemskerk and Carolina Bilich winning the women&#8217;s 800-meter free relay title in 7:52.49.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cbdaweb.org.br\/cbda\/natacao\/evento\/23\/2014\/\/relatorios\" target=\"_blank\">LIVE RESULTS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GUARATINGUETA, Brazil, September 3.
