\nMAUI, Hawaii, August 30.<\/p>\n

There was no controversy tonight at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships as Team USA\u2019s Amy Bilquist (1:01.52), Lilly King (1:08.03), Hannah Kukurugya (59.13) and Katie Drabot (54.76) not only won the women\u2019s 400-meter medley relay in a meet-record time of 4:03.44, the team also took down the World Junior Record since each of its members were also eligible to set a FINA World Junior Record.<\/p>\n

USA\u2019s winning time of 4:03.44 downed the meet record of 4:03.73 set by Team USA in 2010, and also lowered Russia\u2019s World Junior Record of 4:04.48 from last summer\u2019s World Junior Championships. \u00a0Yes, the realm of WJRs are currently confusing since FINA will only recognize some swims that went through all of the same verification as FINA World Records have to undergo, including drug testing. \u00a0So, even though the U.S. had a faster Junior Pan Pac time in 2010 than Russia\u2019s now former World Junior Record, it was never recognized as such.<\/p>\n

Japan\u2019s Rio Shirai (1:02.37), Runa Imai (1:08.18), Suzuka Hasegawa (58.69) and Rikako Ikee (54.87) gave the U.S. a run, but wound up with silver in 4:04.41. \u00a0Canada\u2019s Danielle Hanus (1:02.20), Kelsey Wog (1:11.01), Jacomie Strydom (1:00.27) and Mary-Sophie Harvey (55.09) took third in 4:08.57.<\/p>\n
