Relay teams from San Diego Swim Masters (SDSM) rewrote the record book when they set six Masters World records and 14 USMS National records during the 3rd Annual Veterans Day Memorial Short Course Meters Relay Meet held on the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, CA on November 14. <\/p>\n
SDSM women led the way in the 200+ category, setting new world bests in both the 200m medley and free relays. In the medley, Betsy Jordan, 62, Caroline Krattli 37, Barbara Dunbar 50, and Jackie Marr 56, swam to a 2:22.41, shaving over two seconds off the previous world best of 2:24.72 set by Hayward Masters in 1998. <\/p>\n
In the women’s 200+ 200m free relay, SDSM added Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen 37, Jeanne Little 62, and Marilyn Fink 45, to medley swimmer Marr, then went on to a speedy 2:08.11, smashing the previous world mark of 2:10.33 set in 1998 by a German team. <\/p>\n
When the SDSM women added two men to their relay ranks, it became apparent that SDSM had it all: age, depth and speed. In the 280+ category, where the average age is 70 years, a 200m mixed medley relay team consisting of Little, Jordan, Don Hubbard 72, and Jim Eubank 84, swam a 2:49.27, bettering the world mark of 2:52.77 set by Japan in 1998. Another 280+ world mark fell in the 200m free relay when Tom Dowell 77, Little, Jordan and Eubank teamed together to swim a blistering 2:29.78, smashing the old world mark of 2:35.24 set by Brazil. <\/p>\n
In the 200+ 200m mixed free relay, a new world best of 1:54.31 was established by Beth Knight 40, Dunbar, Michael Ahern 54, and Mike Freshley 58. The previous best was a 1:55.91 set by Mt. Tamalpias in 1998. In the 160+ mixed 200m medley, Pipes-Neilsen, Krattli, Chris Dixon 42, and newcomer Joe Kernan 44, sped to a 1:59.93, shaving nearly two seconds off of the current world best of 2:01.59, set by West Hollywood Aquatics back in 1994.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
