February 18.  THE top-ranked California men&#39;s swimming and diving team suffered its first loss of the season in its final dual meet of the season, falling to fifth-ranked Stanford, 136-107. The Golden Bears won just four out of 13 events and wound up with a 6-1 (3-1 Pac-10) dual-meet record, while Stanford improved to 4-1 (4-1 Pac-10).<\/p>\n<p> The Cardinal started the day with a tight victory over the Golden Bears in the 400 medley relay in a season-best 3:11.06 (NCAA &quot;A&quot; qualifying time) while Cal checked in at 3:11.70. The second event also provided high drama as Shaun Phillips broke the school and pool record in the 1000 free in a time of 8:50.93. <\/p>\n<p>Stanford continued to shine in the third event of the day, the 200 free as Stanford finished 1-2. Daniel Beal won the event in 1:34.75 (NCAA &quot;A&quot; qualifying time) while Andy Grant placed second at 1:34.79 (NCAA &quot;A&quot; qualifying time).Then in the fourth event of the day, Stanford struck gold again as Ben Wildman-Tobriner won in an NCAA &quot;A&quot; qualifying and season-best time of 19.71. Stanford continued to capture first place honors in the fifth event of the day as Tobias Oriwol led a Stanford 1-3 finish in the 200 IM. Oriwol swam the distance in an NCAA &quot;A&quot; qualifying and season-best time of 1:46.09. <\/p>\n<p>Cal won two individual swim events: senior Henrique Barbosa won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:56.40 and junior teammate Patrick O&#39;Neil won the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:45.40. Bears freshman diver Sam Helvie won the one-meter springboard with a score of 216.00 points and the Cal A team of sophomore William Copeland, senior Milorad Cavic, sophomore Jernej Godec and junior Jonas Tilly won the 400-freestyle relay in an Avery Aquatic Center record time of 2:53.68. <\/p>\n<p>                      Stanford vs. CAL &#8211;
