WHILE the Notre Dame men have taken a sizable lead at the Big East Championships, a classic clash has emerged on the female side between Rutgers and Notre Dame. The Scarlet Knights ended the second day of action on Thursday with 268 points with the Irish close behind with 262 points. The Notre Dame men, meanwhile, hold a 293-216 margin over Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s meet, Rutgers received wins from Kelly Harrigan in the 500 free and Madison Kennedy in the 50 free. Harrigan negotiated the 500 distance in 4:45.71 while Kennedy zipped through the two-lap sprint in 22.73. Both women also contributed to Rutgers\u2019 winning 200 free relay, which set a championship record of 1:31.61. They were joined by Laura Wright and Angelina Colavito. Louisville\u2019s Leslie Vanwinkle won the 200 individual medley in 2:02.36.<\/p>\n<p>For the men, West Virginia\u2019s Chris Hagedorn had a spectacular day. Aside from winning the 50 freestyle in 20.04 (he went 19.57 in prelims), Hagedorn guided the Mountaineers to a championship record in the 200 free relay. He was joined by Andrew Langenfield, Nick Delic and Kyle Williams for a time of 1:18.87.<\/p>\n<p>In other men\u2019s action, Notre Dame\u2019s Jay Vanden Berg won the 500 free with a time of 4:22.82 and Louisville\u2019s Vali Preda prevailed in the 200 I.M.
