LOOKING to unseat nine-time defending champion Notre Dame, the Rutgers women sprinted to a first-day lead at the Big East Conference Championships, being held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The Scarlet Knights won both relays during Wednesday\u2019s action and totaled 120 points, 27 more than the 93 points of Notre Dame.<\/p>\n<p>Rutgers started the meet with a triumph in the 800 freestyle relay as Allyson Parent, Laura Wright, Sarah Bicknell and Kelly Harrigan combined for a championship-record time of 7:13.94. Harrigan was sensational on her anchor leg, recording a split of 1:46.33. Notre Dame was second in 7:19.46 and Pittsburgh finished in third place with a time of 7:24.74. Pittsburgh sits in third with 80 points.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 medley relay, Rutgers wiped another record off the books when the squad of Cat Whetstone, Katie Kuczmarkski, Linda Tate and Madison Kennedy was timed in 1:41.76. Notre Dame wasn\u2019t far behind with its effort of 1:41.91. Replicating the finish of the 800 free relay, Pittsburgh was third in 1:43.96.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, Notre Dame bested the competition in the 800 free relay when the group of Brian Freeman, Ted Brown, Rob Seery and Louis Cavadini clocked 6:35.47. Syracuse was second in 6:37.74. As for the 200 medley relay, West Virginia earned gold in 1:29.36. The Mountaineers relied on the lineup of Rick Mann, Nick Delic, Chris Hagedorn and Andrew Langenfield. Notre Dame was second in 1:30.04.<\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame leads the men\u2019s team standings with 74 points, ahead of the 62 points for West Virginia and the 61 points of Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Women &#8211; Team Rankings &#8211; Through Event 5                    <\/p>\n<p>  1.
