TEMPE, Ariz. February 11. THE No. 6 Arizona women's and No. 7 men's swimming and diving teams completed their 2005-06 dual meet season today against intrastate rival Arizona State. The women won 12 of 16 events, downing ASU 181-107, while the men won 11 of 16 events to defeat the Sun Devils 172-123.<\/p>\n

Three Wildcat women dominated the 100 breaststroke as freshman Jessica Embick finished first (1:03.21), sophomore Jacquelyn Craft finished second (1:03.66) and Sieper was third (1:03.70). Pursley also finished first in the 200 butterfly (2:04.64).In the 50 freestyle, sophomore Lacey Nymeyer, Turner and freshman Lindsey Kelly took the top-three positions while Cashion finished second in the 100 freestyle (51.01). Myers won the 200 backstroke (2:01.18) as Smith finished second (2:01.85), Gresdal finished third and freshman Kathryn Thompson was fourth.<\/p>\n

On the women's side for ASU, sophomore Caitlin Andrew (San Antonio, Texas) won two events including the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. In the 100 free and 100 fly, Andrew touched the wall in 50.97 in the 100 free and 54.74 in the 100 fly to lead the Sun Devil women in first place finishes on the day. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, senior Kathryn Hennessy (Kansas City, Mo.) and sophomore Ellis Schieman (Shaker Heights, Ohio) finished in second and third respectively for the Sun Devils.<\/p>\n

Arizona took the top-four places in the 100 freestyle with Burnett finishing first (44.53), Nilo second (45.49), Barnard third (45.55) and Subirats fourth (45.95). Barnes posted his first individual victory in the 100 breast (54.79), while sophomore Darren Maxwell placed second in the 200 butterfly (1:50.50). Ferns posted another individual victory for the Wildcats in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.09.<\/p>\n

For the Sun Devil men, sophomore Lucas Azevedo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and sophomore C.J. Nuess (Medical Lake, Wash.) finished first and second in the 1,000-yard freestyle respectively. Azevedo was clocked at 9:08.04 and Nuess touched the wall in 9:10.00. Azevedo also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle. Senior David Kolozar (Budapest, Hungary) captured the title in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:48.43.<\/p>\n
