ASTON, Pennsylvania, February 9. LAST year, for the fourth time under the direction of Dick Shoulberg, the young women from Germantown Academy (Fort Washington, Pennsylvania) earned Swimming World Magazine\u2019s<\/i> National High School Championship. The honor was shared with Pioneer High, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. <\/p>\n
This year, though, the Patriots might not have to share the title. Although Pioneer put together a sterling performance during the fall, Germantown Academy is storming toward an amazing finish to its season, which will arrive in a little more than two weeks at the prestigious Eastern Interscholastic Championships. Scheduled for La Salle University in Philadelphia, the event is considered the top prep-school competition in the nation.<\/p>\n
Heading into Easterns, Germantown Academy has already put together several stunning swims, efforts that have been achieved in low-key meets. More, Shoulberg\u2019s crew has seen duty in a number of different disciplines, a fact that will come in handy when the lineups are eyed up for title time. Credit the legendary coach for his foresight when it comes to sculpting a program with national-championship aspirations.<\/p>\n
When Easterns roll around, Germantown Academy could be in the running for a pair of scholastic relay records. The Patriots are within striking distance of the 200 medley relay standard of 1:42.71, held by Arrowhead High (Wisconsin). More, the Patriots have the ability to dip well below the 400 free relay record of Pioneer, which sits at 3:23.85.<\/p>\n
Here are a few results from Germantown Academy over the past two weeks. Mind you, the results were produced either in dual-meet competition against Penn Charter or during the Inter-Academic League Championships, a get-together that simply acts as the capper to the completed dual-meet campaign. <\/p>\n
