GREENSBORO, N.C. February, 1. UNIVERSITY of Virginia fourth-year swimmers Fran Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.\/Germantown Academy) and Katie Gordon (Winter Park, Fla.\/Trinity Prep) have been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday (Jan. 30). Both swimmers won the awards for their performances in the final home meet of their careers. Crippen captured the honor for the fourth time this season and the 11th time in his career to tie former Cavalier Luke Anderson's all-time mark for ACC Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week honors.<\/p>\n
Crippen won the ACC men's honor after winning three events in UVa's 130-111 victory over Pittsburgh on Jan. 29. He swam nearly 2000 yards in earning victories in the 1000 free, 500 free and 400 individual medley. Crippen won the three events by a combined 30 seconds. He notched an ACC season-best time of 9:04.00 while winning the 1000 free by 17 seconds. In his next event, the 400 I.M., Crippen bettered the field by seven seconds with a time of 3:55.08. Crippen rounded out the meet by winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:28.34, touching six seconds faster than the runner-up.<\/p>\n
Gordon captured the ACC Women's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week award for the second time in her career after winning a pair of events in UVa's 133-105 win over Pittsburgh (Jan. 29). Gordon turned in season-best swims while winning the 400 individual medley and 500 freestyle. She touched first in an ACC season-best time of 4:18.79 (NCAA "B") in the 400 I.M. Gordon's time bettered her previous season-best by three seconds. She also shaved four seconds off her season-best time while winning the 500 free in 4:52.90 (NCAA "B").<\/p>\n
