CLEVELAND, MS. January, 30. THE Ouachita TigerSharks and Lady TigerSharks came up with a big road sweep of Delta State in a dual meet at the DSU Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon in Cleveland, Mississippi.<\/p>\n
The Lady TigerSharks, ranked No. 6 in the nation in the most recent Division II power polls, took care of the No. 10 Lady Statesmen 129.5-86.5 while the No. 6 TigerSharks pulled a mild upset of the nationally third-ranked Statesmen 133-90.<\/p>\n
Ouachita head coach Jim Dann was proud of his team's effort in pulling out the dual meet sweep.<\/p>\n
"I thought we swam about as good as we could have and it's good to get a head-to-head win over a quality program like Delta State at their place," said Dann. "We got off to shaky start with the women by getting disqualified in the first relay event, but both of Delta's were DQ-ed too, so it didn't kill us."<\/p>\n
The Lady TigerSharks rebounded from the disqualification by getting a win in the 1000 free from sophomore Catherine Engibous and following that with a one-two finish in both the 200 free (Lauren Vickroy and Amanda Riddle) and in the 50 free (Kate Patterson and Trina May).<\/p>\n
The Lady TigerSharks went on to win all but one of the individual swimming events in the rest of the meet and sealed the win with a one-three finish in the final relay.<\/p>\n
The TigerSharks started off solidly by finishing first and third in the 400 medley relay and followed that with a solid showing in the 1000 free. Vicente Condorelli took first followed by teammates Jeff McKee and Josh Christensen in second and third, respectively, to build a big lead.<\/p>\n
The TigerSharks went one-two in the 200 free with Marco Ferraro in first and James Riddle in second and also got a first-place B-qualifying time from Paul Frankenberger in the 50 free.<\/p>\n
After Ouachita went one-two in the 200 IM from Val Ladrat and Jon Manning, Delta State made things interesting by going one-two in the 100 butterfly and in the 100 free in consecutive events.<\/p>\n
"I was happy with the way we responded after Delta put together a couple of wins late," said Dann. "Chris (Achey) in the 100 back and James (Riddle) and Vicente (Condorelli) in the 500 free got us back on track for the win."<\/p>\n
Achey's win in the 100 back and the one-two finish from Riddle and Condorelli in the 500 free came in two of the last three individual events, thwarting the DSU rally. The TigerSharks sealed the deal in the 100 breast, the final individual event of the meet with a first place finish from Ladrat and a second-place finish from Adam Szilagyi.<\/p>\n
Ouachita will try to follow up the dual win at Delta State with a solid performance in the final home meet of the season this Friday night at Waggoner Pool when Ouachita hosts cross-town rival Henderson State in the second underwater Battle of the Ravine on Ouachita's campus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
