NOTRE DAME, Ind. January, 27. THE 19th-ranked Notre Dame men\u2019s swimming and diving team opened the 2006 Shamrock Invitational in fine fashion by winning three of the meet\u2019s six events in the first session of action on Friday evening in the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The meet is being scored as a quadruple dual-meet and the Irish lead the other four squads. Notre Dame is ahead of No. 22 Penn State 68-42, Missouri 72-38, Oakland 80-29 and Louisville 81-28. The second session begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with the third and final session beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening. <\/p>\n
The Fighting Irish opened the evening with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team consisting of juniors Louis Cavadini, Tim Kegelman, Nick Fanslau and senior Tim Randolph clocked a time of 1:22.98. Also posting wins on the night were junior Ted Brown in the 500-free with a season-best time of 4:29.92 and sophomore Sam Stoner in the one-meter diving event with a point total of 313.10. <\/p>\n

200-Yard Freestyle Relay: The Irish opened the evening with a win by Louis Cavadini, Tim Kegelman, Tim Randolph and Nick Fanslau in a time of 1:22.98. <\/p>\n
500-Yard Freestyle: Notre Dame\u2019s Ted Brown posted a season-best time of 4:29.92 to take the win, while his teammate Jay Vanden Berg was second in 4:32.07 and Jace Hopper, also from Notre Dame, was fourth in 4:33.70. <\/p>\n
200-Yard IM: Tim Kegelman and Jamie Lutkus finished second and third for the Irish with respective times of 1:53.40 and 1:53.57. Louisville\u2019s Vali Preda took first-place in a time of 1:52.01. <\/p>\n
50-Yard Freestyle: The Irish had two top-five finishers as Louis Cavadini clocked in at 21.00 to place third, while his teammate Tim Randolph finished fifth in 21.21. Oakland\u2019s Chris Sullivan won in a time of 20.08, which was an NCAA \u201cB\u201d cut. <\/p>\n
One-Meter Diving: Notre Dame sophomore Sam Stoner was victorious with 313.10 points, while his freshman teammate Michael Bulfin was fourth with 296.95 points. <\/p>\n
400-Yard Medley Relay: In the final event of the evening, the Notre Dame squad consisting of Doug Bauman, Tim Randolph, Tim Kegelman and Louis Cavadini posted a season-best time of 3:22.37 to take second-place.
