January, 25.  FRESHMAN Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass.\/Weston) has been named Big Ten Co-Swimmer of the Week after winning three events and swimming a leg on Northwestern&#39;s pool-record-setting 800 free relay Friday against No. 19 Notre Dame.<\/p>\n<p>Nilsson won the 200 free, 500 free and the 200 fly to finish first in three events in a dual meet for the first time in his career. He then swam on the Wildcat 800 free relay squad that turned in a time of 6:33.85 to break the Norris Aquatics Center pool record set in 1999<br \/>\nby Arizona State. The time fell just .5 seconds short of besting the oldest school record still on the books.<\/p>\n<p>The award is the first of Nilsson&#39;s career.<\/p>\n<p>Nilsson is the third NU swimmer and fourth Wildcat to earn Big Ten weekly honors this season, the most of any school in the conference. Juniors Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill.\/Centennial) and Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill.\/Lake Forest) both have been honored twice, and sophomore diver Ryan McIntosh (Louisville, Ky.\/Trinity) earned Diver of the<br \/>\nWeek honors once.<\/p>\n<p>Northwestern&#39;s six overall awards also is the top total in the conference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EVANSTON, Ill.
