RICK Colella set a couple of individual national and world records, while numerous relay records fell during the final day of racing at the Marriott USMS Summer National Championships held at the University of Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>The New England Masters foursome of Tracy Grilli (39.22), Beth Estel (39.83), Diann Uustal (34.29) and Jacki Hirsty (31.65) dipped under the women&#8217;s 240-279 200 medley relay world record today, winning the event in 2:24.99. That took more than four seconds off Pacific Northwest Aquatics&#8217; 2012 record of 2:29.28 that had stood as the USMS and masters world record.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina Masters swimmers Jonathan Klein (31.25), Neal Vestal (33.48), Donald Gilchrist (30.61) and Paul Trevisan (26.26) made it a sweep of the 240-279 medley relay world records today as they lowered Tamalpais&#8217; 2012 USMS and world record of 2:02.72 with a 2:01.60.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia Masters Swim Team&#8217;s Marcia Barry (44.46), Johnnie Detrick (55.83), Terry Sue Gault (39.43) and Beth Schreiner (38.94) lowered the USMS record in the women&#8217;s 280-319 medley relay with a time of 2:58.66, erasing the previous mark of 3:02.23, also set by Virginia Masters earlier this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Rick Colella took down the first individual USMS record of the day, lowering his own 60-64 record of 2:23.10 in the 200 IM from last summer with a 2:21.99. Later in the day, Colella lowered his own USMS and world record in the 200 breast from 2:42.84 to 2:40.46.<\/p>\n<p>Hubie Kerns then erased Richard Burns from the record books in the men&#8217;s 65-69 200 IM, dropping his 2009 USMS and world record of 2:43.37 by just over a second with a time of 2:42.30.<\/p>\n<p>Diann Uustal, already a part of a world record-breaking relay squad earlier in the day, added an individual record to her collection with a new USMS record in the women&#8217;s 65-69 50 fly. Uustal swam a 34.09 to wipe out her own 34.56 from 2013.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s 70-74 50 fly, Josep Claret cleared Richard Burns&#8217; USMS record of 31.42 and Hiroshi Matsumoto&#8217;s world record of 31.49 with a 31.28.<\/p>\n<p>Joann Leilich took 11 seconds off the USMS record in the women&#8217;s 75-79 200 breast, posting a 3:45.42 to obliterate Anne Williams&#8217; 2013 record of 3:56.14 in the event.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usms.org\/comp\/lcnats14\/results\/\">Results: USMS Summer Nationals <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo Credit: Elise Lee COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, August 17.
