OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada, January 17. SWIMMING Canada has partnered with the Government of Quebec, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 du parc des \u00celes and the Olympic Installations Board in the creation of a new Quebec Aquatic Training Center in Montreal. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very pleased to announce the opening of a National Training Center that will amalgamate all four aquatic sports under one roof," said Pierre Lafontaine, CEO\/National Coach of Swimming Canada. \u201cOur swimmers will greatly benefit from these state-of-the-art facilities while they train with elite athletes who have the same aspirations from other aquatic sports. Coaches and athletes from all four sport disciplines will have the opportunity to work together and share their expertise.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Quebec Aquatic Training Center will tailor to the needs of elite athletes competing in swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo. The Center will be based at the Olympic Park Pool adjacent to the Olympic Stadium and the Parc Jean Drapeau Aquatic facilities on Isle St-H\u00e9l\u00e8ne, site of the 2005 FINA World Aquatic Championships. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Government of Quebec and the City of Montreal have demonstrated tremendous support for aquatic sports," Lafontaine said. "Their financial support of an Elite Aquatic Training Center demonstrates great leadership in the advancement of our Canadian athletes on the international stage. Montreal's strong legacy of the 1976 Olympic Summer Games and the recent 2005 World Aquatic Championships will motivate our athletes to be the best in the World.\u201d <\/p>\n
Swimming Canada (SNC), the governing body for competitive Canadian swimming, will also establish a second National Training Center based in the province of British Columbia. The establishment of these two National Training Centers will be complemented by a national outreach program to service athletes and coaches across the country. <\/p>\n
SNC will hire National Center coaches for both locations and will work closely with its provincial counterparts, La F\u00e9d\u00e9ration de Natation du Qu\u00e9bec (FNQ) and Swim BC, to provide services to coaches, athletes and support staff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
