WE just wrapped up the national competitions here in the United States with the junior national and senior national championships. Several swimmers were able to compete in both meets, as the junior nationals does not restrict athletes from competing based on already qualifying for senior nationals. If you\u2019re 18 years old or younger, you can swim at junior nationals.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/c9Nxyy24y5Q?rel=0&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<b>YouTube Measures Views Only For Episodes Watched On YouTube<br \/>\nSubscribe to our YouTube channel, SwimmingWorldSPI<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We asked people on swimmingworld.com what they thought about senior national qualifiers being able to compete at junior nationals, and we closed out the poll with one of the closest results we have ever seen since we started the Poll of the Week a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p>By just a few votes, 50.7 percent, it appears that more people believe that senior national qualifiers should <i>not<\/i> compete at junior nationals. On the flip side of that, 49.3 percent are fine with letting anyone 18 years old and younger compete at junior nationals regardless of how fast they are.<\/p>\n<p>I remember when I swam at junior nationals in the late 1980s that you could not swim any events at junior nationals in which you already had senior national qualifying times. But this year, we had people like Curtis Ogren and Caeleb Dressel swimming their best events at juniors then getting A final and B final spots at senior nationals the following week. It is a good opportunity for swimmers to get in more racing, but does it take the spotlight off those who get their first senior national qualifying times in the same race?
