COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, August 13. THE Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium at the University of Maryland is already known as one of the fastest pools in the country. That\u2019s due largely to the world record Michael Phelps set there in the 200 IM on August 9, 2003. The pool witnessed a world record of the Masters variety today to start the U.S. Masters Swimming long course national championships in the 1500 freestyle.<\/p>\n

Heidi George had already set the USMS national record in the 1500 for the 35-39 age group in June with a 17:37.09. She only needed a six-second drop to get Australian Kirsten Cameron\u2019s world mark of 17:31.97 from 2012, and she went well beyond that with a 17:28.51.<\/p>\n
