PITTSBURGH, Penn. January 14. PITT'S men\u2019s swimming and diving team dominated the top-finishes during this weekend\u2019s tri-meet against Maryland and Villanova. Pitt defeated Maryland 274-77 and Villanova 240-113 in the second day of the two-day meet held at Trees Pool. The Panthers are 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Big East.<\/p>\n
The meet opened with sophomore Jeremy Stultz (Pittsburgh, Pa.\/North Hills), freshman Aleksandr Volovetski (Seffner, Fla.\/Armwood) and senior Adam Natishyn (Easton, Pa.\/Easton Area) sweeping the top three in the 1M boards.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Chris George (Jacksonville, Fla.\/The Bolles School) and junior Nathan McCutcheon (Apollo, Pa.\/The Kiski School) took first and second, respectively, in the 500 free with times of 4:39.24 and 4:39.78.<\/p>\n
Thomas Bird (Charleston, W.Va.\/Capital), Warren Barnes (Pickering, Ont.\/Dunbarton), Jason Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa.\/Cumberland Valley) and Patrick Mansfield (Dayton, OH\/Chaminade-Julienne) teamed together in the 400 medley relay and swam to a 3:25.34 victory.<\/p>\n
In the men\u2019s 200 free, Pitt ran the table again as Miller, Darryl Washington (Aldan, Pa.\/Penn Wood) and McCutcheon finished in the top three.<\/p>\n
Later in the day\u2019s events, Washington took first in the 50 free (20.84) followed by a third-place performance from Bird (21.07).<\/p>\n
Jonathon Buchanan (Beavercreek, OH\/Beavercreek) and Andy Kyrejko (West Orange, N.J.\/The Montclair Kimberly Academy) swam the 200 IM at 1:55.48 and 1:56.94, respectively, for first- and third-place honors.<\/p>\n
Chris Howard (Medford, N.J.\/Bishop Eustace School), Kyrejko and George completed another sweep for the Panthers, as they finished in the top-three of the 200 fly.<\/p>\n
In the 200 back, Buchanan and Ross Lannan (Wayne, Pa.\/Valley Forge Military Academy) led the pack with 1:54.25 and 1:56.66 finishes.<\/p>\n
Barnes finished first in the 200 breast (2:06.23), while Miller, Washington, Bird and Mansfield ended the meet with a win in the 400 free relay (3:05.35).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
