INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, January 14. COMING out of the holiday training period, teams are just starting to gear up for the second half of the dual meet season. Very little has changed in the women\u2019s rankings this week, as the Georgia Lady Bulldogs continue to be the unanimous #1 team. In fact the top 17 teams remain unchanged other than UCLA edging out of a tie with SMU and into the #7 spot all on their own. The only significant movement was Hawaii dropping from 18th to 22nd after the departure of Australian sprint sensation Melanie Schlanger.<\/p>\n
The top 12 spots on the men\u2019s poll remain unchanged with Auburn still reigning as king. Florida State leaped over ACC rival Virginia for the 13th spot, and Ohio State moved up a couple spots to fall in at #18. Two new teams moved into the poll this week. Arizona State, with their strong showing against #15 Purdue, and Pittsburgh, after defeating Big East rival West Virginia, debut tied for 23rd in the nation. The next two weeks are loaded with great dual meets across the country and should stimulate some great debate for the next poll.<\/p>\n
The CSCAA Dual Meet Poll is an indication of a team\u2019s ability to win dual meets during the season and is not a predictor of any team\u2019s end-of-the-season placement at the NCAA Championships, although for most of the ranked teams there is a high correlation between their dual meet strength and the school\u2019s ability to score at the championship meets in March. <\/p>\n
The human pollsters for the CSCAA Top 25 Poll volunteer many hours to research and discuss actual \u201cdual-meet\u201d strength of teams and to represent their respective conferences and regions. They take into account many subjective factors such as travel, location, variations in the scoring of diving, whether \u2018fast suits\u2019 were worn, etc., in addition to the objective criteria of top times and team depth. The poll is designed to rank teams according to how they would perform head-to-head in dual meets on any given day during the time period of that particular poll. It is designed to be fluid so that it can account for all of the varying factors described above.<\/p>\n
