STOCKHOLM, Sweden, January 11. THE FINA World Cup is set to resume in Europe next week and the list of athletes scheduled to race in Stockholm, Sweden is star-studded. The World Cup circuit will follow its Swedish stop (January 17-18) with competitions in Berlin and Moscow. In early February, the tour will make a trip across the pond to New York.<\/p>\n
Among the top names slated to race in Stockholm are South Africa\u2019s Ryk Neethling and American sprinters Jason Lezak and Nick Brunelli. Neethling is expected to contest the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles, along with the 100 individual medley, where he is the world-record holder. Lezak and Brunelli, meanwhile, are expected to clash in the sprint freestyles. Brunelli recently set an American short-course record in the 50 free (21.18) while competing at a Masters meet.<\/p>\n
The men\u2019s competition should also provide quality duels in the breaststroke and backstroke disciplines, with Americans Peter Marshall and Randall Bal set to square off in the dorsal events. As for the breaststroke, the Ukraine\u2019s Oleg Lisogor and France\u2019s Hugues Duboscq could supply down-to-the-wire action in the 50 and 100 distances.<\/p>\n
On the female side, Tara Kirk and Rachel Komisarz are the leading American names scheduled to compete in Sweden. Komisarz is looking to swim a variety of events while Kirk will go to work in her specialties, the 50, 100 and 200 breaststrokes.
