CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, July 2. TYLER Clary continued to test out his mettle in the NASCAR world on Tuesday, participating in a stock car race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n
Clary, the reigning 200 backstroke Olympic champion, has long expressed his desire to be a full-time race car driver, though that will have to wait until he’s done with his competitive swimming career. His move to Charlotte, N.C., earlier this year is helping him twofold: To get in some great training with SwimMAC Carolina’s Elite squad and learn from the best in Charlotte, one of NASCAR’s national hubs.<\/p>\n
Clary finished 15th in the 25-mile semi-professional race, hampered by a car that rolled in front of him causing a small logjam. Clary appears to be making a regular appearance in the weekly race, telling USA Today sports that “I thought it was a lot of fun and I’ll hopefully do better next week.<\/p>\n
“I’m not joking around about it,” he added. “It’s not a publicity stunt. I mean everything about what I’m doing.”<\/p>\n
