{"id":105065,"date":"2014-08-09T19:53:43","date_gmt":"2014-08-10T02:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=105065"},"modified":"2015-08-23T12:48:11","modified_gmt":"2015-08-23T19:48:11","slug":"usa-swimming-senior-nationals-results-matt-grevers-scorches-way-to-3rd-in-world-in-100-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-senior-nationals-results-matt-grevers-scorches-way-to-3rd-in-world-in-100-back\/","title":{"rendered":"USA Swimming Senior Nationals Results: Matt Grevers Scorches Way to 3rd in World in 100 Back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #53565a;\"><i>Editorial coverage for U.S. Senior Nationals proudly sponsored by\u00a0<a style=\"color: #5f93ce;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.masterspas.com\/swim\/\" target=\"_blank\">Master Spas<\/a>!<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #53565a;\">IRVINE, California, August 9.<\/p>\n<p>Tucson Ford\u2019s Matt Grevers, who already won the 50 fly earlier this week, took home the gold in the 100 with a 52.75. \u00a0That\u2019s the third-best in the world this year, behind only Xu Jiayu (52.34) and Ryosuke Irie (52.57). \u00a0Grevers will be putting on a show in Australia later this month at the Pan Pacific Championships squad.<\/p>\n<p>California\u2019s Ryan Murphy, just 19, blistered the rest of the field with a 53.21 to take second tonight. \u00a0That swim was just off his 53.20 from prelims that ranks him seventh in the world. \u00a0SwimMAC\u2019s Nick Thoman rounded out the top three with a 53.46 to tie Mitch Larkin for eighth in the world.<\/p>\n<p>NYAC\u2019s David Plummer, the 50 back winner, took fourth in 53.57 with California\u2019s Jacob Pebley placing fifth in 53.90.<\/p>\n<p>NBAC\u2019s Michael Phelps, who made the Pan Pacs roster via the 100 fly last night with a second-place finish to Tom Shields, had some trouble in the 100 back with a sixth-place 53.95. \u00a0He hit the lane line several times and could not find his typical back-half speed.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford\u2019s Eugene Godsoe (54.66) and Indiana\u2019s James Wells (55.41) placed seventh and eighth.<\/p>\n<p>Shane Ryan shot to 18th in the world with a 53.90 to win the B final. \u00a0Machine\u2019s Jack Conger hit the wall second in 55.26 with Wisconsin\u2019s Drew teDuits placing third in 55.34.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Andrew, the 15-year-old pro swimmer, picked up another heat win this week after his first junior national title last week. \u00a0Andrew clocked a 55.73 to tie his personal best to win the C final. \u00a0BlueFish\u2019s Connor Green earned second in 56.13 with Ethan Young of Carpet Capital taking third in 56.15.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #53565a;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a style=\"color: #5f93ce;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=1418&amp;Alias=Rainbow&amp;Lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">LIVE STREAM<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #53565a;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a style=\"color: #5f93ce;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/Competition?id=00010E0103FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF&amp;day=4\" target=\"_blank\">LIVE RESULTS<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #53565a;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a style=\"color: #5f93ce;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/scratches-impact-night-four-heat-sheets-at-nationals\/\" target=\"_blank\">HEAT SHEETS<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Editorial coverage for U.S. Senior Nationals proudly sponsored by\u00a0Master Spas!
