MELBOURNE, Australia, December 30. ACCORDING to a story in the Melbourne Herald Sun<\/i>, Jessicah Schipper has expressed confidence in her ability to take down the world record in the 200-meter butterfly. She plans to better the standard of 2:05.61, held by Poland\u2019s Otylia Jedrzejczak, at the Commonwealth Games Trials, which begin at the end of January.<\/p>\n
The silver medalist at last summer\u2019s World Championships in Montreal, Schipper produced the second-fastest time in history with a mark of 2:05.65. But, Jedrzejczak produced her global record in the same race, albeit amid major controversy. Several cameras positioned at the wall showed Jedrzejczak finishing with an illegal one-hand touch. At the World Champs, Schipper complemented her silver in the 200 fly with gold in the 100 fly and 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n
"It's definitely in my mind, I'm definitely training for it," Schipper said in the newspaper story. "Really, it's just a (personal best) for me and if I could just do PBs at the Games I would be happy with that. But if I don't get it then it's not the end of the world, I've still got a long time yet. I do think it would be pretty exciting to do it in Melbourne." <\/p>\n
At the Commonwealth Games Trials, Schipper plans on swimming the 50, 100 and 200 butterfly events, along with the 200 and 400 freestyles.
