MELBOURNE, Australia, December 23. ACCORDING to a story by Nicole Jeffery in The Australian<\/i>, Australian National Team coach Alan Thompson has indicated he doesn\u2019t expect Geoff Huegill to compete at the Commonwealth Games Trials, scheduled for January in Melbourne. Huegill is a former world champion in the 50-meter butterfly and the reigning Commonwealth titlist in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n
Thompson indicated that Huegill has not put in the necessary training to be competitive over the 50 or 100 distance at the Commonwealth Trials. Last month, Huegill picked up a second-place finish in the 50 butterfly at the World Cup stop in Sydney, but Thompson said he has been out of the water for the past two weeks and his training hasn\u2019t been fluid in the preceding weeks.<\/p>\n
"It's highly unlikely that Skippy (Huegill) will swim the trials next month," Thompson said in the newspaper story. "He hasn't trained for two weeks and he only did some sporadic training the two weeks before that. I don't know what the future is after that." <\/p>\n
Huegill was the bronze medalist at the 2000 Olympic Games in the 100 fly and advanced to the final in that event at the Athens Games, but finished eighth. His world title in the 50 fly arrived in 2001 in Fukuoka, Japan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
