Canada\u2019s Brittany Gray and Katrina Roxon won the silver and bronze medals respectively on Saturday in the women\u2019s 200-meter breaststroke to conclude the 16-country U.S. Paralympic Open swimming competition for swimmers with a disability. The efforts wrapped up a quick meet that saw numerous records set.<\/p>\n<p>Sisse Egeborg of Denmark won the gold in the 200 breast, clocking 3:05.66. Gray was second in 3:24.15 and Roxon third in 3:35.94. Medals were awarded for the best overall results based on the swimmer\u2019s time in relation to the world record in their respective disability categories. Canada used the competition as a gauge for the 2008 Paralympic Games and won nine medals.<\/p>\n<p>The other medalists for Canada were Adam Purdy, Devin Gotell and Justin Kemp, who were 1-2-3 in the men\u2019s 200 backstroke on Friday. Also on Friday, Joelle Rivard (S4) took the silver in the women\u2019s 50 butterfly while Rhea Schmidt was third in the women\u2019s 400 freestyle. On Thursday, Alex Parent (S10) was second in the men\u2019s 400 individual medley and Laura Jensen (S7) took third in the women\u2019s 50 backstroke. Purdy and Schmidt were members of Canada\u2019s Paralympic team from Athens in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The United States was powered by Roy Perkins\u2019 pair of Paralympic records in the 200 free and 100 butterfly for the S5 classification. Lantz Lamback (S7) also collected a pair of records, accomplishing the feat in the 200 free and 50 back. Jessica Long established three records in Friday action, setting standards in the S8 classification in the 50 and 400 freestyle and a mark in the SM8 class 200 individual medley. Erin Popovich, the most well known American Paralympian, was a world-record setter in the SM7 grouping of the 200 I.M.
