THE crowd at William Woollett Aquatic Center was on world record-alert after Kevin Cordes clocked a blistering 2:07.86 in prelims of the 200 breast, good for a new U.S. Open record. However, he ended up coming in with a 2:09.48 in finals, holding off Nic Fink for the win. After the race Cordes admitted he did not feel as fresh as he had in prelims, but he spoke of the strategy he used to stay in control of his race despite of how he felt.
