INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, August 6. FOUR more NCSA long course records fell by the wayside tonight during the second night of racing at the National Club Swimming Association Summer Swimming Championships in Indianapolis. Sydney Sell, Abby Jagdfeld, Taylor Pike and Samuel Pomajevich each recorded wins in NCSA record time tonight, while Nation\u2019s Capital extended its lead in the team standings.<\/p>\n
The second night of racing opened on a record-breaking note once again, as Lakeside Swim Team\u2019s Sydney Sell dipped under Emily Meilus\u2019 NCSA record from prelims in the 200 back, winning the event in 2:13.23. Meilus, who competes for Nation\u2019s Capital, posted a 2:14.83 in prelims and then dropped again to 2:13.84 to finish second in finals. Alexandra Sumner of the Suburban Seahawks picked up third place honors in 2:16.50. In the men\u2019s 200 back final, Nicholas Alexander of Flyers Aquatic Swim Team and Wade O\u2019Brien of Nova of Virginia fought it out until the last yard, with Alexander coming out on top in the end, 2:02.86 to 2:02.98. William Harrison of Lakeside Swim Team came in third with a 2:04.02.<\/p>\n
A second NCSA record fell in the women\u2019s 100 free, as Waukesha Express Swim Team\u2019s Abby Jagdfeld lowered her own NCSA record that she set in prelims, from 56.02 to 55.98, to win the event tonight. Hannah Baker of Nation\u2019s Capital came in just under a second behind in 56.91, while Lakeside Swim Team\u2019s Brooke Bauer rounded out the top three in 57.07.<\/p>\n
Bowen Anderson of Michiana Stars Swimming just missed breaking the 4:00 barrier in the men\u2019s 400 free final, stopping the clock in 4:00.42. He still had plenty of cushion over second place finisher John Cortright of Nova of Virginia, however, who came in at 4:02.47. Nicholas Plachinski of Ozaukee Aquatics pulled away from a tightly bunched group to take third in 4:03.35.<\/p>\n
St. Charles Swim Team\u2019s Shea Hoyt got to the wall first in the women\u2019s 100 breast, stopping the clock in 1:11.67 to out-do Hershey Aquatic Club\u2019s Vivian Tafuto (1:12.26) and Academy Bullets\u2019 Alexis Yager (1:12.38). Jonathan Tybur of The Woodlands Swim Team got the win in the men\u2019s 100 breast final by a slim margin over Mercy Healthplex Sea Wolves\u2019 Pearce Kieser, 1:04.77 to 1:04.92. Phillip Willett of Rockwood Swim Club was right in the mix as well with a 1:04.98 for third.<\/p>\n
Taylor Pike of Razorback Aquatic Club took down the third NCSA record of the evening, taking .07 off Madison Boswell\u2019s record of 2:13.84 in the 200 fly with a 2:13.77. Boswell, who swims for Poseidon Swimming, was in the lane next to Pike and wouldn\u2019t go down without a fight, finishing just .04 off her own record with a 2:13.88. Paige Kaplan of Long Island Aquatic Club rounded out the top three finishers in 2:16.61. Samuel Pomajevich of Nation\u2019s Capital lowered the third NCSA long course record of the night, taking almost two seconds off Tom Zaferes\u2019 10-year-old record of 2:02.01 with a 2:00.23. Jon Burkett of the Jersey Wahoos came in second at 2:03.18, followed by William Shanel of St. Charles Swim Team in 2:03.70.<\/p>\n
In relay action, Nation\u2019s Capital\u2019s Robyn Dryer, Hannah Baker, Andi Mack and Emily Meilus barely held off Poseidon Swimming\u2019s Sydney Pesetti, Hailey Ladd, Mary Kish and Madison Boswell in the women\u2019s 800 free relay, 8:23.53 to 8:23.83. Magnolia Aquatic Club\u2019s Caitlin Clements, Joy Field, Kaitlynn Sims and Grace Ritch came in third with an 8:26.75.<\/p>\n
Nation\u2019s Capital extended its lead in the team standings after 14 events with 764 points, more than 200 ahead of Academy Bullets Swim Club (547 points) and Lakeside Swim Team (522 points).<\/p>\n
