KATY Aquatic Team\u2019s Hanna Huston took home the first individual title of the meet in the women\u2019s 800 free, while\u00a0Nation\u2019s Capital set records in two of the four relays\u00a0during the first night of racing at the National Club Swimming Association Summer Swimming Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>Huston opened up the competition with a win in the women\u2019s 800 free, dropping 10 seconds from her seed time to win in 8:51.01. Top seed Kelsey Vetalice of The Woodlands tacked on a few seconds to her entry time to take second in 8:52.22, while Taylor Pike of Razorback Aquatics finished right behind in third at 8:52.40. No one came close to the NCSA long course record, an 8:41.08 set by Swim Pasadena\u2019s Samantha Vandenberg in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The first of the three NCSA record-setting swims came in the men\u2019s 200 freestyle relay, as North Bay Aquatics\u2019 foursome of Nicholas Bigot, Stefan Kranenburg, Sheldon Boboff and Peter Lewczyk tied the NCSA record of 1:35.57 set by CATS Aquatic Team last year. Nation\u2019s Capital had a go at the NCSA record as well, but Grant Goddard, James Patrick, Luke Thorsell and Adrian Lin came up just shy with a 1:35.89. Quinn Risley, Tyler Sesvold, Nathaniel Jesko and Joseph Milinovich of Academy Bullets Swim Club rounded out the top three in 1:36.84.<\/p>\n<p>A second NCSA record fell in the women\u2019s 200 freestyle relay, as Nation\u2019s Capital Swim Club\u2019s Hannah Baker, Katelyn Mack, Jasmine Hellmer and Robyn Dryer held on to win in 1:46.26, lowering North Bay Aquatics\u2019 record of 1:46.91 from last year. Both the second and third place teams also broke the previous record; Academy Bullets Swim Club\u2019s Avery Braunecker, Kayla Filipek, Emily Ryan and Hanna Blankemeier got to the wall second in 1:46.66, followed by Lakeside Swim Team\u2019s Monica McGrath, Brooke Bauer, Bryn Handley and Cameron Brown in 1:46.87.<\/p>\n<p>Nation\u2019s Capital kept the ball rolling in the women\u2019s 200 medley relay with another NCSA record. Carrie Boone, Natalie Purnell, Andi Mack and Hannah Baker touched in 1:57.62, cutting .15 off North Bay Aquatics\u2019 top time from last year\u2019s meet. Mickayla Hinkle, Kristin Erf, Sophia Bisch and Ava Howard gave St. Croix Swim Club a second place finish with their 1:58.67, while Nation\u2019s Capital&#8217;s B team picked up third with Emily Meilus, Leslie Cole, Jasmine Hellmer and Robyn Dryer touching in 1:58.91.<\/p>\n<p>The Jersey Wahoos closed out the night with a win in the men\u2019s 200 medley relay, thanks to Alexander Martin, Steven Shek, Jon Burkett and Zachary Fong. They hit the wall first in 1:46.31, ahead of Academy Bullets\u2019 Tyler Sesvold, Brandon Tran, Cavan Smith and Quinn Risley (1:46.56). Nation\u2019s Capital touched third with Luke Thorsell, Timothy Wu, Nicholas McGarry and Grant Goddard finishing in 1:46.98.<\/p>\n<p>Nation\u2019s Capital leads the combined team standings through five events with 393 points, followed by Academy Bullets (296) and Lakeside Swim Team (238).<\/p>\n<p>Results from the meet are available on the Meet Mobile app.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo Credit: Christopher Rattray INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, August 5.
