BELCONNEN, Australia, August 4. IN two weeks, Australia will host the Pan Pacific championships at the new Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, and the same stars who won gold medals at the recent Commonwealth Games will be racing against some new challenges from the United States and Japan, among other countries, starting August 21.<\/p>\n
Ellen Gandy is the only swimmer from the Commonwealth Games not on the list, withdrawing for “personal reasons,” according to Swimming Australia. And though he swam through the Commonwealth Games with a severely injured shoulder, Christian Sprenger is also on the roster, though he is “subject to fitness.”<\/p>\n
James Magnussen said in an interview the day after the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games that he had been suffering some back problems, but had hoped to get things in order in time to renew his rivalry with Nathan Adrian in the 100 free.<\/p>\n
The Campbell sisters, Cate and Bronte, will race at Pan Pacs, as will Emma McKeon and Melanie Schlanger. These four set the world record in the 400 fee relay and will look to repeat the effort.<\/p>\n
