FORT WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania, November 17. THE Ivy League received a major boost in its talent pool when Germantown Academy\u2019s Alicia Aemisegger recently decided to take her vast skills to Princeton University. A standout in the individual medley events, breaststroke and distance freestyles, Aemisegger trains under legendary coach Dick Shoulberg. She also considered Florida, Southern California and Virginia.<\/p>\n
At last year\u2019s World Championship Trials, Aemisegger finished third in the 400 I.M. and just missed an invitation to Montreal for the World Champs. Her time of 4:42.32, which ranked ninth in the world for 2005, was bettered at the U.S. Trials by only Katie Hoff and Kaitlin Sandeno. Hoff won gold in the event at the World Championships and Sandeno is the American-record holder in the event.<\/p>\n
During her junior year at the scholastic level, Aemisegger helped Germantown Academy claim a share of Swimming World\u2019s<\/i> female team title, along with Ann Arbor Pioneer (Michigan). Aemisegger ranked among the national leaders in the 200 I.M., 100 breast, 200 free and 500 free. Her time in the 200 I.M. was the fastest by a private-school student.<\/p>\n
Aemisegger is the latest standout to be produced by Shoulberg, who could be considered the finest coach of I.M. swimmers in American history. Shoulberg has molded the careers of David Wharton and Maddy Crippen, among others. In heading to Princeton, Aemisegger is probably the top Princeton recruit since Nelson Diebel attended the school. Diebel won gold in the 100 breaststroke at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
