2014 USA Pentathlon National Championships has been held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Two weeks of pentathlon included a training camp and National Championships for Seniors (22 and older), Juniors (21 and younger), and Youth (18 and under) pentathletes. Junior and Senior pentathletes competed in fencing, swimming (200 m freestyle), show jumping, and combined running\/shooting (4 x 800 m running combined with pistol shooting) events. Youth pentathletes competed in fencing, swimming, and combined events. Nationals included women, men, and mixed relays divisions.<\/p>\n

Senior\/Junior Women<\/h1>\n

Junior and Senior women competed first. As it was expected, sisters Margaux and Isabella Isaksen\u2019s (Fayetteville, AR) fenced very well by winning fencing event \u2013 21 victories and only 3 defeats (282 pentathlon points). Margaux continued to lead the competition after winning swimming event with a time of 2:22.32 and riding a horse without technical mistakes. Riding event was won by Stacy Hoehle (Indianapolis, IN).<\/p>\n

Swimming event at USA Pentathlon Nationals<\/i><\/p>\n

Before the last event (combined running\/shooting), Margaux Isaksen had a solid lead against her sister Isabella, while National Team member Samantha Achterberg (Littleton, CO) was in 3rd<\/sup> place. Samantha won combined event, which secured her the 2nd<\/sup> place at National Championships Senior division. Margaux isaksen won gold, and Isabella Isaksen finished in 3rd<\/sup> place. Medalists at Senior Nationals: Margaux Isaksen (gold), Samantha Achterberg (silver), and Isabella Isaksen (Bronze)<\/i><\/p>\n

In a Junior division, Isabella Isaksen won gold medal, Kristina Troyanski (Austin, TX) silver medal, and Paige Vallee (Orlando, FL) bronze medal.<\/p>\n

Senior\/Junior Men<\/h1>\n

The next day men competed in Junior and Senior divisions. Josh Riker-Fox from Canada won fencing event with 28 victories and only 4 defeats (292 pentathlon points). Nathan Schrimsher (Roswell, NM) finished second in fencing (24 victories), and Harrison Greene was in 3rd<\/sup> place (21 victories). The second pentathlon event swimming was won by former University of Florida swimmer Logan Storie (Corvallis, OR) , who swam very fast time of 1:55.97 over 200 meters at the altitude of 6,035 ft. Logan is the fastest swimmer in the world in pentathlon. Harrison Greene won the riding event with a perfect score of 300 points.<\/p>\n

Silver medalist Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, TX) in the riding event<\/i><\/p>\n

Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, TX) won combined running\/shooting event. Nathan Schrimsher won the National Championships, Dennis Bowsher finished in 2nd<\/sup> place, and Joshua Riker-Fox (CAN) finished in 3rd<\/sup> place. The third American was Brendan Anderson (Colorado Springs, CO). He finished in 4th<\/sup> place overall. Final results of three medalists in Open Division:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

In a Junior division, Brendan Anderson won gold medal, Tim Van Laarhoven (Minneapolis, MN) silver medal, and Lucas Schrimsher (Roswell, NM) bronze medal.<\/p>\n

Mixed Relay<\/h1>\n

In the mixed relay competition, Isabella Isaksen and Amro Elgeziri (EGY) won two events fencing and swimming (2 x 100 m relay). By finishing in 2nd<\/sup> place in riding and combined events, they secured win at this competition. Margaux Isaksen and Brendan Anderson finished in 2nd<\/sup> place by winning riding and combined events. Samantha Achterberg and Dennis Bowsher finished in 3rd<\/sup> place.<\/p>\n

Youth Girls<\/h1>\n

Youth athletes (18 and under) don\u2019t compete in riding. Fencing event was won by Katherine Penvose (Minneapolis, MN) with 31 victories and only 3 defeats (292 points). The fastest girl at the pool was Katherine Shomper from Nitro Swim Club (Austin, TX). Her time over 200 m freestyle was 2:24.80 (260 points). Katie Penvose also won combined event with a time of 14:48 (412 points). Despite of winning two events, Katherine finished in 2nd<\/sup> place overall. Katherine Penvose won Youth Nationals with 887 points. Katherine Shomper finish in 2nd<\/sup> place (732 points), and Amira Hindi (Roswell, NM) finished in 3rd<\/sup> place (713). Youth boys\u2019 competition began with fencing event. Michael Hoffmann (Orlando, FL) won this event with 36 victories and 6 defeats (285 points). Luke Shereston (Roswell, NM), a representative of New Mexico Military Institute, won 200 m freestyle race with a time of 2:08.67. Combined event was won by Brendan Anderson (Colorado Springs, CO) with a time of 13:22. Solid results in all events allowed Brendan to win a 2014 Youth National Championships. Brendan also qualified for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing. Final results of three medalists:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
