INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, August 1. COUNTRYSIDE Ralph Stolle emerged from a tight team race through five days of racing with the combined team title tonight at the YMCA National Long Course Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. Two more national records fell in the final session, as Countryside\u2019s Ali Marsteller set a new mark in the 100 free and Kishwaukee\u2019s Caitlynn Moon took down the 800 free record.<\/p>\n
Countryside\u2019s Ali Marsteller opened the final night of racing with a new national record in the women\u2019s 100 free. After qualifying first in 57.12, Marsteller lowered her time even further to a 56.43, erasing Katrina Konopka\u2019s 56.77 from the books. Ingrid Shu from Lakeland Hills finished half a second behind in 56.93, followed by Somerset Valley\u2019s Katrina Kuhn in third at 57.90. Ocean County\u2019s Zachary Molloy, who also won the 100 fly earlier in the meet, added to his win total in the men\u2019s 100 free, touching first in 51.01. Colin Ellington of Triangle Area earned another top three finish with a time of 51.41, while Grant House gave Countryside a 1-3 finish with his 52.05 for third.<\/p>\n
Middle Tyger\u2019s Amanda McNulty cruised to victory in the women\u2019s 200 fly final, winning by more than three seconds in 2:15.24. Brooke Perrotta of Cheshire edged Astrid Swensen of North Shore for second, 2:18.80 to 2:18.89. Tommy Kealy of Wilton picked up his first win of the meet with a solid victory in the men\u2019s 200 fly. Kealy touched in 2:05.29 to out-swim Lancaster\u2019s Ryan DePietro (2:06.04) and Cheshire\u2019s David May (2:06.21).<\/p>\n
After taking almost 20 seconds off the national record in the women\u2019s 1500 free on night one, Kishwaukee\u2019s Caitlynn Moon earned her third win and second national record of the meet, closing out her competition with another dominant performance. In the 800 free today, Moon cut six seconds off Laura Simon\u2019s 2009 record of 8:55.46 with an 8:49.29. The second and third place finishers, Verity Abel of Wilton (8:53.18) and Leah Braswell of York (8:53.43) also dipped under the previous national record. Countryside\u2019s Kevin George and Ridley\u2019s Matthew Haigh treated the crowd to a thrilling finish in the men\u2019s 800 free tonight. Both George and Haigh trailed several other swimmers for the majority of the race, before the two pulled away on the final 100. At the wall, George got his hand on the wall first in 8:27.58, only .02 ahead of Haigh\u2019s 8:27.60. Middle Tyger\u2019s Heyward Brown, who held a two second lead over both swimmers with 250 meters to go, slipped to third in 8:29.04.<\/p>\n
Riding her high from winning the 100 free earlier tonight, Countryside\u2019s Ali Marsteller swam away with another title, this time in the 200 IM. Marsteller touched in 2:19.04, edging Cheshire\u2019s Brooke Perrotta, who finished in 2:19.78. Kacey Oberlander of York rounded out the top three in 2:21.68. Countryside\u2019s Grant House, who already won the 200 and 400 free earlier in the meet, picked up his third victory in convincing fashion after stopping the clock in 2:05.49 in the men\u2019s 200 IM. House made up serious ground in the final, dropping three seconds from his prelim time and moving up four spots to take the win. Powel Crosley\u2019s Jonathan Rutter finished second in 2:06.71, followed by Wilton\u2019s Maxwell Dolan in 2:07.00.<\/p>\n
Emily Slabe of Countryside led a group of five swimmers under 30 seconds in the women\u2019s 50 back final, edging Westfield\u2019s Caroline Baldwin for the victory, 29.54 to 29.70. Emily Cornell gave Upper Main Line a third place finish with her 29.86. A trio of swimmers broke 27 in the men\u2019s 50 back final, led by BR Ryall\u2019s Maximilian St. George in 26.73. It marked the first win of the meet for BR Ryall. Suncoast\u2019s Tristan Sanders wound up second in 26.85, .08 ahead of Kishwaukee\u2019s Daniel Hein (26.93).<\/p>\n
Triangle Area closed out a successful meet with a close win in the women\u2019s 400 free relay. Haley Bishop, Sam Medlin, Kelsey Lawton and Jenny Nusbaum posted the fastest time of the day at 3:53.14, just holding off York\u2019s Cami Cook, Kacey Oberlander, Emily Ilgenfritz and Becca Luft, who came in at 3:53.31. Somerset Hills\u2019 Marlise Moesch, Tatianna Prendella, Kathleen Miszkiewicz and Julieyanna Parker finished a tenth behind them in 3:53.41.<\/p>\n
Triangle Area swept the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 400 free relays to close out the meet, as the men\u2019s foursome of Noah Franz, Jon Suits, Chris Kohut and Seth Maslowski topped the field in 3:30.50. Cheshire\u2019s quartet of Jack Doherty, Kyle Neri, Curtis Maher and Joseph Shepley finished second in 3:31.36 to close out their meet. Ryan O\u2019Neill, Matthew Kazanowsky, Michael Skibniewski and Zachary Molloy of Ocean County rounded out the top three in 3:31.59.<\/p>\n
Countryside Ralph Stolle wrapped up the combined team title with 730 points, followed by Triangle Area (666 points) and Wilton (664 points). Wilton won the men\u2019s title with 362 points, only four ahead of Countryside (358). Ocean County rounded out the top three with 339 points. Triangle Area picked up the women\u2019s crown with 381 points, nine in front of Countryside (372). York finished third in the women\u2019s team race with 343 points.<\/p>\n
