November, 6. FOR the fledging swimming and diving team on the campus of Soka University (Aliso Viejo, California) the historical first dual meet win was thought to be somewhere in the very distant future. In only the second year of fielding a team, Head Coach Dave Salo reports his men\u2019s team scored a convincing win over Chapman University with a final score of 83 to 41.<\/p>\n<p>Contributing to the first-ever win were freshman stalwarts, Ankur Poseria (Ohio), Andrew Jarvis (Canada) and Nate Flores (New Mexico) who led the team to 7 wins with Chapman taking victories in only the 100 breaststroke, the 500 freestyle and the 200 free relay. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis team has improved dramatically from our first year and we are attracting some outstanding student-athletes like Ankur, Nate and Andrew that will make a tremendous impact on our ability to compete,\u201d commented Head Coach Salo. \u201cI think we will surprise a lot people this year with our improved competitiveness and our great team spirit.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, Soka University battled in a double dual format against Chapman University and Mills College. Chapman defeated the Soka women 89 to 55 while an outstanding Mills team outscored Soka 120 to 38. Mills took Chapman with a score of 91 to 68.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur women have a bit of a way to go to be competitive, but they have improved so much since last season when we were just trying to teach them how to train,\u201d responded Salo regarding his women\u2019s team.<\/p>\n<p>Salo, a two time USA Olympic Coach and Head Coach of the 2005 USA Men\u2019s World Championship Team has been the Aquatics Director and Head Swim Coach at Soka University since 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Licensed to Irvine Novaquatics, Inc.
