October, 30. SENIOR Jane Copland posted three individual wins Saturday as Washington State out swam San Jose State 152-110 at the SJS Aquatics Center. Copland earned 27 points with wins in the 100 (1:05.06) and 200 breaststroke (2:18.08) events and 200 individual medley (2:08.61).

"We swam fairly well against the Trojans" said WSU Head Swimming Coach Erica Quam. "We came out a little sluggish and were getting beat on our turns and finishes. After that first break, they were only five points behind us and we got together as team and talked about the things we could do differently coming back to be more successful. Once we did that, we finished off the meet very well. All in all, it was a good weekend of racing for us and we accomplishes a lot of the goals we had going into the weekend.

Kayli Changstrom turned in top times in the 1000 (10:21.39) and 500 freestyle (5:02.91) events and swam to a second place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:08.98) brining in 22 points for the Cougars. Erin McCleave poured in 18 points for Washington State with wins in the 100 (52.27) and 200 freestyle (1:51.64) events. Sophomore Bryn Mooney rounded out the top Cougar finishers swimming to victory in the 100 butterfly (58.18) and finishing second in the 200 butterfly (2:07.97) for 13 points.

The relay team of McCleave, Monika Povilonyte, Mooney and Katie Van Horne picked up their second victory of the weekend collecting the top spot in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:54.43. The four swimmers combined for first place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:46.00) at the Pacific Invitational Friday, Oct. 28.

Povilonyte earned two second place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events adding eight points to the WSU total. Other Cougars contributers included Afton Pickett with second place finishes in the 100 and 200 backstrokes and Lina Daugvilaite with second and third place performances in the 500 and 1000 freestyles respectively.

The Trojans were led by Brie Marhenke (13 points) and Sarah Colvin (12 points). Marhenke won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.97 and finished second in the 100 freestyle. Colvin grabbed a win in the 100 backstroke (59.11) and finished third in the 100 butterfly.

Next up, the Cougars travel to Vancouver, British Columbia, for the UBC Colleges Cup Nov. 4-5.
