HONOLULU, HI – Allen Stack, a gold medalist in swimming at the 1948 Olympics, died at the age of 71. Stack, who died at his home on September 19, won a gold medal in the 100m backstroke in 1948. He also swam on the U.S. team in the 1952 Olympics. Stack held six world records and 22 American records between 1948 and 1951, when he swam for Yale. He also won 10 AAU championships. He was elected to the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1979, and was a charter inductee into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Stack was born in New Haven, Conn., and earned degrees from Yale and the Columbia School of Law. He came to Hawaii in 1956, after serving four years in the Navy, and practiced law until his retirement last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
