\nPULLMAN, Wash. October, 14. WASHINGTON State Swimming earned its first win of the season as the Cougars powered past Idaho Friday at Gibb Pool. WSU won 13 of 14 events. WSU junior Erin McCleave led her team with three individual wins, setting a Gibb Pool and Washington State record in the 1,000 freestyle at 10:06.15.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnytime night you get a school record, I\u2019ll take that,\u201d said WSU Head Swimming Coach Erica Quam. \u201cIt\u2019s great to have Erin\u2019s name up on the record board again. She took down one of or most decorated alumna in Jill Olson and it was really an honor for her to get that this evening, especially so early in the season. Good to get it at home too. Setting a pool record and school record at home, that\u2019s a good night.\u201d<\/p>\n
McCleave also tallied wins in the 100 backstroke, 57.54, and 200 backstroke, 2:05.09. Kayli Changstrom turned in wins in the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley and Bryn Mooney won the 200 butterfly, 100 butterfly and finished second in the 200 backstroke.<\/p>\n
WSU junior Monika Povilonyte earned wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:04.99 and 2:20.11, respectively. Lina Daugvilaite added a win in the 500 free and the Cougars notched wins in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays in the Washington State victory.<\/p>\n
Idaho\u2019s Bryn Spores had the lone Vandal top finish taking the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.74 and led the Vandals with 11 points. JoJo Miller added 11 points and three top three finishes for the Vandals with Paige Lee tallying nine points with three third-place finishes to round out the Idaho top scorers.<\/p>\n
FAU Takes Out Miami<\/b>

BOCA RATON, Florida. October, 15. FLORIDA Atlantic University\u2019s women\u2019s swim team won 11 events on the way to a win over the University of Miami on Saturday. The Owls opened the season by taking the top three spots in the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free and 200 breast.<\/p>\n
Freshman Lindsey Alexander won the 100 back in 57.97. In the 100 fly and 100 free, freshman Jennifer Forcht won with times of 57.18 and 53.49, respectively. FAU took the top-four spots in the 100 free with Jessica Lampkin (54.83), Jenny Harms (54.89) and Ashley Carlozzi (55.29) following Forcht.<\/p>\n
Standout breaststroker Ellie Weberg took both the 100 and 200 breasts in 1:05.28 and 2:21.48. She led the sweep of the 200 ahead of freshman Nicole Samilo and Halle Keihlmier with times of 2:24.49 and 2:27.84.<\/p>\n
Geni Burts led the charge in the 200 free and 400 IM. She won the 400 IM by five seconds over UM\u2019s Kristen Lunak. Sophomore Lauren Shue made her mark in her first season at FAU. She won the 1000 free in 10:18.94 and the 500 free in 5:05.89. In the 200 fly, Shawna Griffith edged out Miami\u2019s Nancy Gajos by touching the wall in 2:07.71.<\/p>\n
Louisville defeats Big 10 Foe<\/b>

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky. October, 15. FOR the first time in school history, the University of Louisville women's swim team defeated a Big Ten opponent when the Cardinals stunned Illinois at the Ralph R. Wright Natatorium Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
"I am very proud of the women's team and especially where we came from since 2004. Last year, Illinois dominated us from beginning to end," said Louisville coach Arthur Albiero.<\/p>\n
The Cardinals won the opening 200 medley relay when Lauren Grimes, Johanna Nyysti, Jenny Schimenti and Melanie Greyling came from behind and edged out Illinois.<\/p>\n
"That first relay really set the tone," said Albiero. "We were mentally prepared going into the race but to come from behind and win was a huge surge for us."<\/p>\n
The Cardinals went one-two in the 1,000 free when Ashley Jackson just touched out teammate Abby Miller. Grimes won the 100 back for the Cardinals at 59.29 and Heather Meng touched first in the 100 breast. <\/p>\n
Freshmen Miller and Schimenti went one-two in the 200 fly and freshman Leslie VanWinkle won the 50 free to keep Illinois scrambling to catch up. Miller earned another win later in the 400 IM.<\/p>\n
Meng got her second win in the 200-breast and Schimenti took the 100-fly and placed second in the 400 IM to add to the Cardinal point total.
\nIn diving, Louisville swept the 1-meter board with Marianne Bradford finishing first.<\/p>\n
Lady Dawgs Win Over Georgia Tech<\/b>
\nGeorgia 136.5, Georgia Tech 89.5<\/b><\/p>\n
ATLANTA, Georgia. October, 14. GEORGIA\u2019S Lady Dawgs smashed their way through their meet Friday, toppling Georgia Tech. The Dawgs won all but three events which they exhibitioned. Some of the more impressive times were Mary DeScenza\u2019s 2:03.57 in the 200 IM, Elizabeth Hill\u2019s 2:01.95 in the 200 butterfly, and Stephanie Carr\u2019s win in the 1,000 free in 9:54.32.<\/p>\n
Georgia Tech\u2019s Stephanie England took the 3-meter board with teammate Laurissa Prystaj in second. GT\u2019s Elizabeth Stowe won the 500 free and Alison Walker took the 200 breast. Georgia Tech also took top points in the 200 free relay while the Dawgs opted to exhibition.<\/p>\n
Gator Women Smash Gamecocks<\/b>

COLUMBIA, South Carolina. October, 14. The Gator women swam their way to victory against the University of Virginia on Friday led off by Olympian Dana Vollmer, who was on pace in her races to set pool records in the 100 (relay lead off) and 200 Free before letting up at the end of the race. She clocked in at 50.26 and 1:48.11.<\/p>\n
Freshman diver Jackie Apple (UVA) swept the diving events with scores of 253.73 in the 1-meter event and 259.20 in the 3-meter event. Virginia\u2019s other event winner was Rachael Burke in the 1,000 free, leading a 1-2 finish. Burke had a time of 9:56.91 with Rory Schmidt placing second at 10:04.40.<\/p>\n
The Gator women dominated the 400 medley relay, finishing one-two, as well as the 200 fly with Vipa Bernhardt and Ashley Carusone cruising in under 2:03. Jaime Reid won the 200 backstroke in a superb sub-two minute swim (1:59.51).<\/p>\n
The battle of the meet, however, featured 1,000 free winner Burke and UF\u2019s Kim Larson in the 500 free. Larson prevailed and finished in a 4:54.07 while Burke touched in at 4:54.68<\/p>\n
Mizzou Loses to A&M at Home<\/b>

COLUMBIA, Mo. October, 15. THE Texas A&M women\u2019s swimming and diving team opened its 2005-06 dual meet season with a win over the University of Missouri at the Mizzou Aquatic Center on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n
The Aggie women won 13 of 16 events including both relays and both diving competitions. The Aggies went one-two in the 200-yard medley relay and had senior Erin Briskie winning three events. She took both breastrokes and the 200 IM. <\/p>\n
Freshman Triin Aljand was a force in the sprinting events for a second consecutive day. Aljand won a pair of individual events and swam on both winning relays and lowered the Mizzou Aquatic Center 50-yard freestyle record of 23.35 that she set on Friday down to 23.13. <\/p>\n
The Aggies\u2019 formidable freshmen class continued to excel as three different newcomers claimed individual wins in three different strokes. Christine Marshall nearly claimed an NCAA consideration mark in her 100 butterfly win by clocking a time of 55.65. Kristen Heiss led a one-two Aggie finish in the 100 back by finishing in 57.58, while Codie Hansen fought her way to a win over a pair of Missouri freshmen in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.10.<\/p>\n
Stanford Bests San Jose State<\/b>

STANFORD, Calif. October, 14. ON Friday Stanford won 12 of the first 14 events contested before swimming exhibition in the final two events to give first-year head coach and former Cardinal swimmer Lea Maurer a victory in her collegiate coaching debut. The victory was also Stanford's seventh consecutive dual meet win.<\/p>\n
Brooke Bishop (200 back, 2:00.45; 200 free, 1:50.20), Morgan Hentzen (500 free, 4:57.80; 1000 free, 9:59.84), Cassidy Krug (1-meter, 192.80; 3-meter, 185.65), Erica Liu (100 breast, 1:04.71; 200 breast, 2:19.18) and Laura Wadden (100 fly, 56.87; 200 fly, 2:04.62) were all two-time individual event winners for the Cardinal. Bishop put up two of the three NCAA times of the day, reaching the "B" qualifying standard in both of her events.<\/p>\n
Stanford also captured the meet-opening 200 medley relay in a time of 1:45.16, and Dana Kirk had the third and final NCAA "B" mark of the day (2:04.17) in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n
San Jose State's Alli Adams was the winner of the 200 IM (2:13.37) while a foursome of China Cho, Lauren Mar, Sarah Colvin and Brie Marhenke captured the 200 free relay (1:37.55).
