ST. PETERSBURG, Florida, October 10. THE latest freshman phenom in Florida has emerged in the person of Megan Romano. Swimming for Northeast High, Romano established a pair of individual meet records at the St. Petersburg City Meet over the weekend. Romano also helped her team take top honors in the 200 medley and 400 free relays.<\/p>\n

A member of the United States Junior National Team, Romano blasted a 1:47.84 clocking in the 200 freestyle and came back with a 4:49.93 mark in the 500 free. She also led off the 400 free relay with a 50-second clocking that led to a 3:39.10 performance. The medley relay was timed in 1:54.08. Northeast won the team title with 522 points, 61 clear of St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n

Romano, however, will not have the opportunity to compete at the Florida State Championships due to her Junior National status. Due to a mandatory camp in Colorado Springs on October 27-29, Romano will miss her regional competition, which also serves as the qualifying meet for states. The only way she\u2019ll have the chance to compete at states will be in relay action, and only if her team secures qualifications in her absence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
