SYDNEY, Australia, October 7. WHEN the Sydney stop on the World Cup circuit is held November 19-20 at the Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, there will be some serious firepower in the pool. Aside from the presence of several elite Australian women, the United States will be represented by Natalie Coughlin and Margaret Hoelzer. During the World Championships in July, Coughlin earned silver in the 100 backstroke and bronze in the 100 freestyle while Hoelzer was the silver medalist in the 200 back.<\/p>\n
For the Aussies, Libby Lenton, Brooke Hanson and Jessicah Schipper will carry the home torch, along with Giaan Rooney and Sophie Edington. All five women earned medals at the World Champs and helped define Australia as the current No. 1 nation on the female side. Edington set a world record during the July competition, winning the 50 breaststroke in 30.45.<\/p>\n
The United States men will be represented by Peter Marshall and Robert Margalis. Marshall, a Stanford product, is one of the top backstrokers in the world while Margalis placed seventh in the 400 individual medley at the World Championships.
