GREENSBORO- Kelsi Whirlwind Worrell broke Natalie Coughlin’s seemingly untouchable American record in the 100 fly today TWICE today. She became University of Louisville’s first individual national champion tonight with a scorching 49.81. The scary thing is, she did not execute the race perfectly. Her first wall was long, but there’s nothing that will smear the smile from her face.

Her team’s celebration made everyone in the audience want to cry. Here the junior superstar shares with Swimming World her reaction to her 21.9 50 fly relay split, how much she’s motivated by her team goals, and how she overcame mono last year. Worrell has an abundance of easy speed, so keep your eyes on that 200 fly tomorrow.
