Steffens earns the honor on the heels of winning a second consecutive FINA World Championship with the USA Women’s National Team and a fourth straight FINA World League Super Final crown. The two-time Olympic champion and two-time FINA World Player of the Year wrapped up her collegiate career at Stanford this past May winning her third NCAA Championship along with ACWPC Player of the Year honors.
A nominee for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year Award and a recipient of an NCAA post-graduate scholarship, Steffens was named Most Valuable Player of the 2017 NCAA Championship and received Stanford’s Tom Hansen Medal awarded to one outstanding male and female senior athlete. Steffens’ nomination comes a year after fellow 2016 Olympic gold medalist Ashleigh Johnson (Miami, FL/Princeton/NYAC) became the first ever water polo player to receive the prestigious honor.
