NEW COMMIT: The defending Big East Champion women have received their first verbal commitment for the Class of 2022. Grace Wielar has given her verbal commitment to Villanova University. Wielar hails from Richmond, Virginia and swims for Nova of Virginia Aquatics.

The senior at Saint Catherine’s School is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Her top times include:

  • 200 Free 1:50.56
  • 200 Back 2:01.68
  • 100 Fly 56.15

She wrote on Instagram,

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Villanova University next fall! I appreciate all the support from my family, friends, and coaches. Can’t wait to be a wildcat!!\\// #gocats”

At the 2017 Big East Championship Villanova took the top six spots in the Conference in the 200 freestyle with times ranging from 1:46.1 to 1:51.3. With her best time, Wielar would have fit right in there, finishing between fifth and sixth. Wielar could be fighting for an 800 freestyle relay spot her first year.

She also would have touched fifth in the 200 backstroke with her best time. The Wildcats only had two in that A final- Darby Goodwin (1st, 1:55.02) and Gabrielle Daigneault (2:00.83).
