Vermont Snags Commitments From Teammates Beth Hartog, Shannon Lindsey

NEW COMMITS: The University of Vermont has picked up two new commitments for this upcoming fall from Beth Hartog and Shannon Lindsey.

Hartog and Lindsey both do their club swimming with Hopkins Mariner Swim Team under head coach Chuck Elrick. They will suit up for the Catamounts as members of the class of 2023.

Beth Hartog

A native of Hamden, Conn., Hartog is a strong backstroker and distance freestyler. She placed 21st in the 200m back at the CT LCM Championships this past summer and finaled in both backstroke distances at the Southern Zone Sectional meet in March. Also competing for Hopkins School, Hartog is a three-time finalist at the NEPSAC DI Championships. When she arrives in Burlington this fall, she’ll join a backstroke group led by Morgan Montgomery and a freestyle group that includes Sophia Smith and Maddy Kovacs.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to start my academic and swimming career at the University of Vermont in the fall. The girls and the coaches there are so amazing and I can’t wait to become part of that family. GO CATS!!!”

 

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 1:00.19
  • 200 back – 2:07.67
  • 500 free – 5:24.74
  • 1000 free – 10:58.64

Shannon Lindsey

Hailing from Cheshire, Conn. and also representing Cheshire High School, Lindsey is a talented freestyler who most recently competed in the 500 free at the Connecticut Open State Championships during her junior season. She has consistently placed high in the 50 free at the Class L Championships throughout her high school career. When she arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season, she’ll join a sprint group that includes Kira Parker and Sierra Sexton as well as a mid-distance squad led by Smith and Kovacs.

She told Swimming World:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim D1 and further my education at the University of Vermont! A big thank you to all of my friends, family, and coaches for getting me to this point and pushing me! I can’t wait for the next 4 years and what’s to come!! Go CATS!!!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.93
  • 100 free – 55.70
  • 200 free – 1:59.86
  • 500 free – 5:11.63
