USA Swimming Sectionals, Federal Way: Missy Franklin Doubles Again

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 10. NO one has been able to stop Colorado Stars' Missy Franklin at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Federal Way thus far.

Franklin garnered her fourth individual title of the meet with a sparkling time of 1:00.02 to win the women's 100 back. That swim came up just short of her second-ranked season best of 59.92 clocked at the Austin Grand Prix in January. Emily Seebohm is the only other sub-1:00 this year with a top-ranked 59.36 from Australia last month. King's Hannah Weiss took second in 1:02.38, while Issaquah's Kathryn Kinnear finished third in 1:02.60. Notably, Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon picked up fourth in 1:02.73.

Franklin doubled up with a back-to-back victory when she posted a 4:13.74 to claim the women's 400 free title. That pushed her individual gold medal tally for the meet to five. Brandon placed second in the middle distance event, also pulling a tough double, with a 4:18.22. Gold's Kata Simonovic touched third in 4:19.81.

Corvallis' Jacob Pebley raced to victory in the men's 100 back with a 56.18, while Colorado Stars' Hennessey Stuart finished second in 57.40 as the top two also cleared the U.S. Olympic Trials cut. Phoenix's Andy Nikishenko placed third in 57.63.

YMCA Westside's Chris Webb lowered a 1992 meet record in the men's 400 free with a 3:58.02 to win the men' s 400 free. That swim eclipsed the 3:59.40 set by Jody Braden before the turn of the century. Ian Wheeler finished second tonight in 3:58.78, while Tualatin Hills' Cameron Stitt placed third in 3:59.50.

Megan Jendrick, still just five months out of giving birth to her child Daethan, clipped Tacoma's Carolyn McCann, 1:10.74 to 1:10.86, for the women's 100 breaststroke title. DU Hilltopper Alicia Jensen earned third-place honors in 1:11.42. BYU's Brady Wells captured the men's 100 breast title in 1:04.25, while Longmont's Connor Dwyer finished second in 1:04.33. Tualatin Hills' Gabriel Rooker took third in 1:04.64.

Issaquah's Kathryn Kinnear topped the women's 100 fly in 1:0.24. DU Hilltopper Kelly Naze (1:00.59) and Kamahameha's Summer Harrison (1:01.25) placed second and third.

Phoenix's Roland Schoeman won the men's 100 fly in 53.18. Superior's Aaron Ghiglieri took second in 55.46, while Gold's Brent Creager finished third in 55.54.
