U.S. Olympic Team Names Captains

PASADENA, August 24. THE 48 members of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Swim Team elected its co-captains yesterday.

Josh Davis and Tom Wilkens were elected as co-captains of the men's team.

Lindsay Benko, Cristina Teuscher and Jenny Thompson were elected as tri-captains of the women's team.

The captains are among the most distinguished and decorated athletes on the U.S. squad. Davis, a triple Olympic gold medalist in 1996 and a graduate of the University of Texas, will be swimming the 200 free and probably both the 400 and 800 free relay. Wilkens, a graduate of Stanford, will be swimming the 200 breast and 200 IM.

Benko, a USC alumna, will swim the 200 free, 200 back and 800 freestyle relay. Teuscher, who just graduated from Columbia, will be swimming the 200 IM and possibly the 800 free relay. Thompson, a Stanford grad who will be attending Columbia Medical School, will swim the 100 free, 100 fly, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay and possibly the 800 free relay.
