NEW COMMIT: Runner and swimmer Madison Nalls has verbally committed to swim for the University of Pittsburgh beginning in the 2018-2019 season. In the pool Nalls is a freestyler. She has also had success in high school cross country and track. She’s a rising senior at Eastern York School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society.

Nalls told Swimming World,

“I chose Pitt because of the supportive coaching staff, competitive team, and endless academic possibilities. Pittsburgh gives me the opportunity to not only grow as an athlete, but also as a student and a person. I can’t wait to be a Panther. Hail to Pitt!”

Nalls swims for York Y. Her best SCY times are:

  • 50 Free 23.86
  • 100 Free 52.19
  • 200 Free 1:49.45
  • 500 Free 4:57.84

While Eastern York school does not have a pool, Nalls has trained club year round but represented her school at Pennsylvania High School states in each of her three years thus far. At the 2017 AA meet Nalls was second in the 200 freestyle behind current York Y teammate Courtney Harnish.

Nalls has also qualified for and competed in high school states for cross country and track. As a testament to her athletic prowess on land and in the pool Nalls has been selected to GameTimePA YAIAA’s All-Star teams for swimming and cross country.

At the 2017 ACC Championships Nall’s best 200 freestyle time would have finished just outside scoring range. As she transitions into a single sport focus, she should see some time drops. While Pitt did not score in the 200 freestyle sophomore Rachel Brown (1:49.39) was on the bubble. She’ll overlap with Nalls for a year and should be a good training partner.

Nalls joins Dakota Elliott in making an early verbal commitment to the Panthers.
